In response to the Student Union's Healthy Litchi Garden Sports Plan and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen University, the Graduate Party Branch and the Graduate Student Union of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering at Shenzhen University continued the tradition of the "Run, Photonics People, Run" event for the third time on March 17, 2023. This event aimed to showcase the vibrant and upward spirit of the young individuals in the field of physics and optoelectronics. Over 70 participants, including Deputy Secretary Lin Jilin, Ph.D. Party Branch Secretary Lin Na, counselor Xie Haowei, and specially invited alumni from the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, joined this event.
To ensure the smooth execution of the event, the staff made careful preparations, setting up the venue and providing energy drinks and snacks. The cross-campus run covered a total distance of 3 kilometers, with four checkpoints along the way for participants to check in. The route circled the campus to provide participants with a better understanding of the school, with the sports plaza serving as both the starting point and the finish line. At half-past six in the evening, teachers, students, alumni, and volunteers gathered at the designated location. Lin Jilin briefed everyone on the event's details, rules, and guidelines, while also engaging in conversations about the daily lives of students, the recent developments of alumni, and their feelings upon returning to their alma mater.
When discussing the benefits of regular exercise, Zhang Zhiteng, a master's graduate from the class of 2008, stated, "Running not only helps me relax and relieve stress but also strengthens my willpower." Liu Tao, an undergraduate from the class of 2016, shared, "At first, I felt tired, but after persevering for half a month, running has become an indispensable part of my life."
Teachers and volunteers patiently addressed the participants' inquiries about the running process. As more and more people joined, the event even attracted students from other faculties. At precisely seven o'clock in the evening, the cross-campus run officially commenced. While the participants showed great enthusiasm, they also displayed formidable strength. The first student to return to the sports plaza completed the run in an impressive time of 11 minutes! Teachers and alumni enthusiastically joined and completed the run as well. Despite some participants showing signs of fatigue during the competition, they persevered with unwavering determination and completed the run. After finishing the run, volunteers distributed drinking water, sports drinks, and energy bars to the participants in need.
At nine o'clock sharp, the competition officially concluded, and volunteers transported the supplies back to the optoelectronics building, marking the end of the event. This activity not only promoted physical fitness but also honed participants' willpower and resilience. The act of "checking in" filled the students with a sense of achievement, and the joy of running was palpable as participants completed laps around the campus track.
