Applicants must complete relevant operations on this application system, otherwise, the registration will be invalid.
Qualification Review
After receiving the applicant's materials, the college will organize a review panel of no less than 3 members to conduct a qualification review according to the application conditions. The review results will be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office. After a random check by the Graduate Admissions Office, the results will be publicly announced.
Supervisor Recommendation
The college will submit the applicant's materials to the supervisor they have applied to. The supervisor will review the applicant's materials, provide recommendations, and rank applicants who have applied to them simultaneously.
This stage should respect the supervisor's autonomy in admissions. Supervisors will recommend applicants to the discipline point in a ratio not exceeding 1:3.
(IV) Preliminary Review of Disciplines, Determination of Examination List
The discipline expert group of the college conducts a careful review of the materials submitted by applicants and conducts a preliminary evaluation of their scientific research innovation capabilities based on the relevant implementation rules formulated by the discipline. The group then selects applicants based on their research potential. The discipline points, in accordance with the intentions of the recruiting supervisors, determine the list of applicants entering the examination stage (interview and professional written test) based on a certain differential retest ratio. Applicants without supervisor recommendations do not enter the retest examination stage. The list of applicants intended to enter the retest examination stage is announced on the college's website (http://cpoe.szu.edu.cn/).
(V) Discipline Examination (including professional written test)
The discipline points of the college organize experts to conduct scientific examinations. The specific time and location are announced on the college's website, and the specific requirements for the examination are as follows:
The examination content includes four parts: foreign language proficiency, professional quality, research potential, and comprehensive abilities. The focus is on assessing applicants' scientific research innovation capabilities and whether they possess the potential and qualities for doctoral education in the corresponding primary discipline. Additionally, the examination assesses applicants' comprehensive abilities in analyzing, problem-solving, and innovation. The assessment of professional quality includes a professional written test to evaluate applicants' basic knowledge and professional qualities. Furthermore, the examination also evaluates applicants' comprehensive qualities such as ideological and political awareness, psychological qualities, and moral character. The total score of the examination is 500 points, and those scoring below 300 points are not admitted.
During the examination process, each applicant is required to present a personal introduction, academic achievements, research topics, research achievements, and research plans during the prospective doctoral study period using a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation. Recommending supervisors may supplement relevant information but must refrain from participating in discussions and scoring.
The examination process must be standardized, with each interview lasting no less than 20 minutes and with on-site records, scores, and comments. The entire examination process must be video-recorded for future reference, and representatives from the Graduate School/Commission for Discipline Inspection may attend if deemed necessary.
The interview may be conducted through remote online interviews or on-site interviews. Interviews may be conducted in batches, with consistent examination standards across different batches and the same interview method within the same batch, as a general principle.
A professional written test is conducted to assess applicants' basic knowledge and professional qualities. The subject for the physics exam is "Advanced Quantum Mechanics," and two sets of exam papers, labeled A and B, are prepared, with one set randomly selected as the examination paper.
In mid-January 2024, based on the examination results, the discipline points will submit a list of intended admissions to the school in descending order of scores (not exceeding the number of applicants intended to be admitted for the corresponding professional field as published in the 2024 doctoral student enrollment directory), and submit relevant materials to the Admissions Office (application materials, examination records (including written test papers), audio and video recordings, etc.).
(VI) Review by the School's Graduate Admissions Working Group
The school's Graduate Admissions Working Group reviews the qualifications, application materials, supervisor recommendations, discipline point recommendations, etc., of candidates who have passed the discipline examination. Those who are approved within the quota for each enrollment specialty are granted provisional admission. According to relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, the results are announced for a period of 10 working days.
V. Supervision Mechanism
(I) Information Disclosure. For the enrollment methods of integrated master's and doctoral programs and the "application-examination" system, information collection should be accurate, procedures for disclosure should be standardized, and content should be released promptly in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education for information disclosure. The Graduate School and colleges, according to their respective responsibilities, proactively disclose enrollment policies, enrollment regulations, enrollment plans, enrollment specialty directories, applicant qualifications, application procedures, admission results, channels for consultation and appeals, major violations, and their handling results. Colleges promptly publish on their websites the number of admissions and relevant information about all applicants participating in the examination. If there are changes to the list of intended admissions during the public announcement period, special explanations must be provided for the changed parts, and the changed content must be publicly announced for another 10 working days. Applicants who have not been publicly announced are not eligible for admission.
(II) Applicants must truthfully provide application materials. If it is found that applicants have submitted false materials, cheated, or engaged in other disciplinary violations, they will be dealt with seriously according to the severity of the situation in accordance with relevant national laws, regulations, and Ministry of Education regulations. Applicants themselves bear the consequences if they are unable to be admitted or other related consequences.
(III) The Graduate School and the school's disciplinary (supervisory) office set up reporting hotlines and email addresses for reporting enrollment irregularities:
Supervision Hotline: 0755-22671162 (Disciplinary Committee), 0755-26536177 (Admissions Office);
E-mail:jiwei@szu.edu.cn(Disciplinary Committee),szuyz@szu.edu.cn(Admissions Office).
(VI) Other Instructions
The college will coordinate and determine the enrollment admission ratio for the "application-examination" system and integrated master's and doctoral programs based on the actual disciplines and application conditions.
In principle, each supervisor can only admit one academic doctoral student in 2024.
After the Ministry of Education formally issues the 2024 doctoral enrollment plan, the second round of integrated master's and doctoral programs and the "application-examination" system enrollment will be launched in a timely manner.
Candidates who pass the qualification review are not allowed to apply for the next round of enrollment in the same specialty.
