The arrangements for the first round of admissions interviews for the Doctor of Optical Engineering program at the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering in 2024 are as follows:

I. Interview Schedule and Venue

  1. Specialized written examination (completed)

  2. Interview assessment time: January 16, 2024 (Tuesday) at 9:00 a.m.

  3. Interview assessment venue: Room 1421, Zhiyuan Building, Canghai Campus

II. Interview Content

The interview carries a total score of 500 points. The assessment content mainly includes professional qualities (in written form, 100 points), foreign language proficiency (100 points), research potential (200 points), and comprehensive abilities (100 points). Emphasis is placed on assessing applicants' research and innovation capabilities, as well as their potential and qualities for doctoral training in the field of optical engineering. The interview should comprehensively reflect the applicants' abilities in applying their knowledge, research innovation, understanding of the forefront and latest research dynamics in their discipline, foreign language proficiency, ideological and political qualities, moral character, and psychological health status.

III. Interview Process

  1. Personal statement (8 minutes): Applicants will present their personal profiles, academic achievements, research topics, research results, and proposed research plans during their doctoral studies via a PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Comprehensive test (12 minutes): This includes an English proficiency test, expert questioning and assessment, and the review of applicant materials by interview experts. Each expert will score applicants' foreign language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive abilities as required. If the applicant's prospective supervisor is one of the interview experts, the supervisor will not score their own applicant.

IV. Score Assessment

The scores for foreign language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive abilities will be averaged (excluding the highest and lowest scores) to determine the interview total score. Comments will be provided, and the interview total scores will be sorted from high to low, along with the written examination scores, to suggest a list of candidates for admission. The total score for the assessment is 500 points, and applicants scoring below 300 points will not be admitted.

Applicants are advised to carefully review the above arrangements and prepare accordingly, including copying their PowerPoint presentations in advance.
