Announcement of the First Round of Admissions Interview Arrangements for the 2024 Physics Doctoral Program at the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering:

I. Schedule and Location for the Interview (Offline):

  1. Registration Time: January 18, 2024 (Thursday) from 08:30 to 09:00

Offline Registration and Written Test Location: Room L1-311, Zhili Building, Canghai Campus, Shenzhen University

  2. Written Test Time: January 18, 2024 (Thursday) from 9:00 to 12:00

  3. Interview Assessment Time: January 19, 2024 (Friday) starting from 08:30

Interview Assessment Venue: Room 1421, Zhiyuan Building, Canghai Campus, Shenzhen University

II. Interview Content:

The maximum score for the interview is 500 points. The assessment includes four main components: Professional Qualities (in written test format, 100 points), Foreign Language Proficiency (100 points), Research Potential (200 points), and Comprehensive Abilities (100 points). The focus is on assessing applicants' research innovation capabilities and whether they possess the potential and qualities required for doctoral training in the field of physics. The interview should comprehensively reflect applicants' abilities to apply their knowledge, research innovation capabilities, understanding of the forefront areas and latest research developments in the field, foreign language proficiency, ideological and political qualities, moral qualities, and psychological health status.

III. Interview Process:

  1. Personal Statement (8 minutes): Applicants will present their personal profiles, academic achievements, research topics, research outcomes, and planned research during the doctoral program using a PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Comprehensive Test (12 minutes): This includes an English proficiency test, questions and assessments by the interview panel, and review of applicant materials. Each panel member will grade the applicant's foreign language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive abilities as required. If a prospective supervisor is a member of the interview panel, they are not permitted to grade their own prospective students.

IV. Evaluation of Results:

The scores for foreign language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive abilities are calculated by taking the average (excluding the highest and lowest scores) for each category. The sum of these scores determines the total interview score. Comments will be provided, and based on the total score from the interview combined with the written test score, a proposed list of candidates for admission will be ranked from highest to lowest. The total score for the assessment is 500 points, and candidates with a score lower than 300 points will not be admitted.

Candidates are advised to carefully review the above arrangements and make necessary preparations in advance, including copying their PowerPoint presentations. During registration and the interview, candidates must present their second-generation Resident Identity Card (including the new version of the temporary identity card). If there are any questions, please contact Mr. Zhang at 0755-26732152.
