Arrangements for the second batch of admissions interviews for the 2024 Optical Engineering doctoral program at the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering are as follows:
I. Interview Time and Location
Professional written exam time: January 22, 2024 (Monday) 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Professional written exam location: Multipurpose Hall 301, Hui Guang Building, 3rd floor, Yuexing Campus (North Campus), Shenzhen University
Interview assessment time: January 23, 2024 (Tuesday) 8:30 am
Interview assessment location: Room 1421, Zhiyuan Building, Canghai Campus (South Campus), Shenzhen University
II. Interview Content
The total score for the interview is 500 points. The assessment content mainly includes professional qualities (written exam format, 100 points), foreign language proficiency (100 points), research potential (200 points), and comprehensive ability (100 points). The focus is on assessing applicants' research and innovation abilities, as well as whether they possess the potential and qualities required for doctoral training in the field of optical engineering. The interview should comprehensively reflect the applicant's ability to apply knowledge, research and innovation capabilities, understanding of frontier areas and the latest research trends in the field, language proficiency, ideological and political qualities, moral qualities, and psychological health status, etc.
III. Interview Process
Personal statement (8 minutes): Applicants present their personal introduction, academic achievements, research topics, research results, and proposed research plans during the doctoral program through a PowerPoint presentation.
Comprehensive test (12 minutes): English proficiency test, questioning and assessment by interview experts, review of applicant materials by interview experts. Each expert evaluates the applicant's language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive ability as required. If the applicant's prospective supervisor is one of the interview experts, the supervisor is not allowed to score their own applicants.
IV. Score Assessment
The scores for foreign language proficiency, research potential, and comprehensive ability are averaged (excluding the highest and lowest scores). When interview experts include the applicant's prospective supervisor, the supervisor does not score. The total interview score is determined by summing up these scores, along with the written exam score. The applicants are then ranked from high to low based on the total assessment score, and a list of recommended candidates for admission is provided. The total assessment score is out of 500 points, and applicants scoring below 300 points will not be admitted.
Candidates are advised to carefully review the above arrangements and prepare accordingly, including copying the PowerPoint presentation in advance. During registration and interviews, candidates must present their second-generation Resident Identity Card (including the new version of the temporary identity card).
