As the auspicious dragon bids farewell to the old year, the golden snake brings good fortune. On the occasion of the 2025 Spring Festival, the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering held its grand New Year gathering, themed “Celebrating the New Year with the Spirit of the Snake, and Embarking on a New Journey with Wisdom”. School leaders, faculty, staff, and alumni representatives gathered together to celebrate the New Year with warmth and joy.
The event began with a speech by Vice President Li Yonghua. He reviewed the rich achievements made by the school in teaching, research, and talent cultivation over the past year, and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the faculty and staff for their hard work, as well as to the alumni who have always supported the development of the school. He particularly quoted the classic line “After thousands of trials and tribulations, the bamboo remains strong, regardless of the direction of the wind”, praising and recognizing the spirit of resilience and determination shown by the faculty and staff of the college, encouraging everyone to continue to carry forward their spirit of hard work and progress, and to work together to achieve even greater success in the new journey ahead.
The Party Secretary of the college, Lin Bing, reflected on the struggles and solidarity of the faculty, staff, and alumni in 2024, as well as the brilliant chapters they created. Looking forward to 2025, he encouraged everyone to stay focused on their goals, continue to strive forward, and work hard to achieve even better results in the new year. He also extended his sincere New Year wishes to everyone. Afterward, Secretary Lin officially declared the commencement of the gathering.
The atmosphere at the event was incredibly lively, with constant laughter and joy. Wonderful performances took place on stage one after another. Vice President Li Yonghua passionately recited “The Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng”, his recital rich in emotion and intonation, which greatly energized everyone present. Dean Liu Yong of the Graduate School performed a solo of “Waiting”, while the leadership team of the school sang “Tomorrow Will Be Better”, with their passionate voices filled with enthusiasm for the old year's departure and the new year’s arrival, and an endless yearning for a bright future. The performance of “Crazy Puppet Dance” by the teachers was full of grace and power, with every leap and turn depicting endless possibilities for the future. The performance of “Three Half Sentences”, told humorous stories about the college’s fun and developments, bringing waves of laughter and applause from the audience. Additionally, there were other splendid performances, including a two-stringed erhu solo and a small choir.
Interspersed with the performances were exciting raffle draws, with rich prizes that further heightened the excitement of the event. The cheers and applause echoed throughout the venue, pushing the atmosphere to one climax after another.
