On the morning of June 23, the 2025 graduation ceremony and degree conferral for the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering,Shenzhen University were grandly held at the Yuanping Sports Hall. In attendance were Lin Bing, the Party Secretary of the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Liu Liwei, the Executive Vice Dean, Vice Deans Wu Honglei, Luo Jingtian, Wen Qiao, Deputy Secretary Long Xiaoli, Professors Li Jingzhen, Qu Junle, Sun Yiling, Tian Jindong, Su Hong, Weng Xiaoyu, and Zheng Zhuanghao, among other distinguished faculty members. Department heads, class advisors, counselors, administrative representatives, and over 500 graduates, their families, and friends gathered to witness this solemn yet heartfelt occasion. The ceremony was hosted by Wen Qiao.

The ceremony began with the solemn sound of the national anthem. Wu Honglei first introduced the basic information of the 2025 graduates.

Graduate Representative—Writing the Era’s Answer with Light

Graduate student Lin Qiao, representing the master’s graduates in Optical Engineering, gave a speech. She passionately reflected on her three years of research experience, recalling unforgettable moments with mentors. Drawing inspiration from Mr. Huang Xuhua’s belief “To serve the country, one must go even to remote places; to pursue what the heart desires, one must overcome all obstacles,” she confessed,“Though the path of research is rough, the process of tempering will ultimately illuminate the outcome.” Undergraduate representative Guo Linrui, using the metaphor of “calibrating a beam of light,” shared his growth journey from confusion to certainty, encouraging fellow students to make “unity” the resonant frequency for breaking barriers and to turn “dedication” into an eternal light that illuminates the journey ahead, sparking a wave of resonance in the audience.

Teachers’ Encouragement—Become Quantum Leapers Who Never Stop

Professor Zheng Zhuanghao, class advisor for the 21st Physics Teacher Training Class, spoke as both a senior and a mentor, encouraging the graduates to “never stop like photons and always be full of energy like electrons.” He quoted Einstein’s famous words, urging students to “become valuable people” and promised, “The school will always be your optical resonant cavity, waiting for every return of synchronized resonance”.

Dean’s Address—Forge ‘Hard-Core’ Abilities and Brave the Tide of the Times

Liu Liwei, the Dean, presented the graduates with “three beams of light”. Firstly, always maintain scientific curiosity.Embrace the spirit of “investigating things thoroughly” and continuously explore in their respective fields.Secondly, stick to the unity of knowledge and action,transformingwhat they have learned into practical abilities to solve key national problems.Thirdly, advocate teamwork,creatingvalue together with an open and inclusive attitude.Dean Liu particularly emphasized that in the current context where the nation urgently needs breakthroughs in key technologies like high-end chips and quantum information, students of the School of Physics and Optoelectronics are at the right time and have a heavy responsibility. She encouraged them to integrate personal ideals with national development and become pioneers in technological innovation. At the end of her speech, Dean Liu expressed her wishes for the graduates: “May you carry the rational light of physicists and the innovative fire of optoelectronic engineers, navigating through the tides of time. Go boldly after the light, for you will ultimately become the light that illuminates the future”!

Lin Bing read out the decision to commend outstanding graduates, and the school leadership along with the distinguished professors presented certificates to the award-winning students.

After Luo Jingtian announced the decision to confer degrees, the professors on stage performed the tassel-turning ceremony for doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate graduates, presented certificates, and posed for photos.

Flowers and Song—Reaching the Mountains and Seas, We Shall Meet Again

At the end of the ceremony, the graduates presented flowers to their mentors. The whole audience sang “Chasing Light” under the leadership of a student representative. At this moment, the meaning of light was perfectly interpreted — “light” represents both the scientific light that the students of the School of Physics and Optoelectronics explore, the ideal light guiding their journey of youth, and the light of warm legacy between teachers and students.
