As the seasons transition, with winter fading and summer arriving, another year’s alumni homecoming day is upon us. On September 27, alumni from the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering returned to their alma mater with enthusiasm. Whether alone or accompanied by family and friends, they gathered together to celebrate the university’s anniversary.

In the afternoon, an alumni seminar was held in the 1206 conference room of Zhiyuan Building, with over 20 participants, including school leaders, alumni representatives, and faculty members. The seminar was chaired by Lin Bing, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College.

The meeting began with a speech by Lin Bing. First of all, he extended a warm welcome to the returning alumni on behalf of the college, introduced the attendees, and then provided an overview of the college’s history, discipline development, talent cultivation, and international collaboration. This allowed the alumni to gain a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of the current development and future goals of the college.

Next, alumni representatives took turns to speak, sharing stories and anecdotes from their time at Shenzhen University, as well as their recent work and life experiences. They fondly recalled their student days, memories with mentors and classmates, and discussed the deep and lasting connection they maintain with their alma mater after entering society. The seminar proceeded in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Liu Liwei, Executive Vice Dean of the College, delivered the concluding remarks. She expressed sincere gratitude to the alumni for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the event. She highlighted the college’s mission of talent cultivation and delivery, stating that witnessing the alumni’s growth was a source of pride for the institution. She wished the alumni happiness in their personal lives and success in their careers, and extended an invitation for them to return to the campus frequently for further exchange, to strengthen the multidimensional connection between the alumni and the college.

After the seminar, under the college’s careful organization, alumni and their families followed the guidance of student volunteers on a tour of various laboratories, including those for Computer Control Technology, Analog-Digital Electronics, Laser Principles, and Smart Interactive Technologies. The alumni’s children were especially curious about the various technological products and eagerly tried them out. Among the most popular attractions were the VR, MR, 3D interactive devices, robots, and robotic dogs, which particularly captured the children’s attention and sparked their interest.

The group then visited Huiguang Building, where Xu Xizhen, a faculty member, gave a detailed introduction to the history, organizational structure, research teams, research directions, and achievements of the Ministry of Education and Guangdong Province’s Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems. Following this, they visited the exhibition room dedicated to Academician Niu Hanben, where the guide’s narration offered an opportunity to reflect on the life and legacy of the academician and to appreciate the spirit of scientific inquiry. Additionally, the group toured the Optical Fiber Sensing Laboratory, where they had a chance encounter with former professors, reminiscing about the past and rekindling the teacher-student bond.

At the end of the event, everyone gathered for a group photo. The bright smiles and sincere well-wishes marked the successful conclusion of the alumni homecoming day event.
