On November 15th, the second “Zhihui Wuguang - Sci-tech Innovation Leadership” Alumni Technology Salon of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering at Shenzhen University was held at the Benyuan Design Center on the Yuehai Campus. This event, co-hosted by the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering and its alumni association, built upon the success of the first salon and aimed to further innovate both in content and format. The goal was to establish a strong bridge between the school and its alumni, gathering the collective strength of faculty, students, and alumni to foster forward-thinking ideas and to ignite the torch of technological innovation for a new journey.

The event was attended by over 70 participants, including Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Luo Yi, Vice President of Shenzhen University Li Yonghua, Teacher Huang Zirong from the Alumni Relations Department, Party Secretary Lin Bing, Executive Vice Dean Liu Liwei, Vice Deans Wu Honglei, Luo Jingtian, Wen Qiao, Party Secretary Deputy Lin Na, Vice Dean Wang Jipu, President of the Alumni Association Wei Feng, as well as alumni representatives, faculty, and students. The event was hosted by Wang Jipu.
01. Opening Speech by University Leaders
Li Yonghua, Vice President of Shenzhen University, gave the opening speech. He started with a poem dedicated to welcoming the alumni “home”, which was met with enthusiastic applause. In his speech, he reflected on the success of the first salon and noted that this year’s event had significantly improved both in the depth of the topics and the interactive format. He highly praised the alumni technology salon for its platform value and its role in building a bridge. Looking forward, he made three key expectations for the college, the alumni association, and all members of the Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering community: the college should become an “innovation hub”, the alumni association should create a “warm harbo” and gather a “source of strength”, and all members should be “leaders of the times”, always maintaining the spirit of exploration, frequently returning to the college to pass on knowledge, and ensuring that the “light of Wuguang” continues to shine.

02. Award Ceremony
In the subsequent award ceremony, Liu Liwei presented an external mentor appointment letter to Wei Feng. Wei Feng and Liu Guideong (the Vice Secretary-General of the Alumni Association) jointly presented the “Innovative Star” trophy and certificate to the students who won the silver award in the 2025 China International College Student Innovation Competition National Finals.

03. Salon Reports
During the highly anticipated salon report session, Academician Luo Yi gave an exciting presentation. He discussed the development and evolution of semiconductor chips and addressed the bottleneck of computing power in artificial intelligence, gradually elaborating on the theme “Semiconductor chips are the foundation of artificial intelligence computation”. His easy-to-understand explanation captivated the audience, with faculty, students, and alumni listening attentively and expressing that they had gained a lot from the talk.

Alumnus Guo Jiping, currently working at the Technical Research and Development Center of the Shenzhen Metrology and Quality Inspection Institute, shared a report titled “Research Practice on Intelligent Optoelectronic Sensing Metrology and Detection Technology”. After briefly introducing the comprehensive strength of the institute, he focused on his research practices in the development of intelligent optoelectronic sensing metrology and instruments.

Alumnus Zheng Wei, who now teaches at the School of Materials Science at Sun Yat-sen University, delivered an academic report on “Vacuum Extreme Ultraviolet Detection Technology”. He systematically introduced the research background, the construction of vacuum extreme ultraviolet photonic testing systems, and the development of radiation-resistant vacuum extreme ultraviolet detectors and scintillators.

Alumnus Chen Hua, currently working at the China General Nuclear Power Group Research Institute, gave a comprehensive interpretation on the topic “Building the Intelligent Foundation for the Nuclear Power Industry: AI-driven Independent Innovation and Safety System Construction”, addressing AI applications in nuclear power, policy planning, cutting-edge progress, and future challenges.
