Welding Training: Igniting Practical Skills and Empowering Innovative Dreams at the “Create ∙ Share Liyuan” Innovation Week
Time of publication:2025-12-03 | Number of views:

To help students master basic welding skills and enhance their practical and innovative abilities, the Innovation Department of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, in collaboration with the university’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center, launched the “Create ∙ Share Liyuan” Innovation Week series of activities—specifically, the “Sound-Controlled Flowing Light Welding Training”. The training was organized by the undergraduate innovation laboratory of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering and supported by the guidance of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center and funding from the college’s internship and practical program. The training attracted about 50 students from different majors, and combined theoretical instruction with hands-on practice, providing a platform for students to “learn skills, practice abilities, and promote innovation”.

1. Preparations Before the Event

The registration process for the event began with an online questionnaire. The training covered basic welding skills and practical exercises. To enhance convenience for participants, the organizing team prepared a complete set of welding materials and tools in advance, so students did not need to bring any materials themselves.

2. On-Site Event Documentation

On the afternoon of November 23, the training was officially held in Room 316 of Zhiteng Building. Xiong Yi, president of the undergraduate innovation laboratory of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, began by giving a lecture on basic welding skills. He explained key knowledge and practical techniques related to welding, such as welding gun temperature adjustment, controlling the amount of solder, and the sequence for welding electronic components. His explanation was clear, detailed, and provided a solid theoretical foundation for the students’ subsequent hands-on practice.

After the lecture, the training transitioned to the core “welding hands-on practice” session. Under the guidance of the staff, the students engaged in welding tasks. Laboratory staff moved between the seats to offer assistance to students encountering issues, ensuring the practical session proceeded in an orderly and efficient manner. The atmosphere was both focused and collaborative, with students helping each other.

3. Outcomes and Significance

By the evening, as students completed their sound-controlled flowing light circuits and successfully lit up their LED sound-control lamps, the training was coming to an end. Students eagerly raised their projects, capturing the precious moment. From the detailed theoretical lecture at the beginning to the immersive welding practice, students not only learned the practical engineering skill of welding but also strengthened their hands-on abilities and problem-solving skills through the “theory + practice” approach. The training inspired their enthusiasm for exploring electronic circuits and laid a solid foundation for future participation in scientific research projects, competitions, and related innovative practices.

4. Summary

This sound-controlled flowing light welding training provided a vivid and intuitive hands-on experience, opening the door to engineering practice for the students of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering. As an essential part of the “Create ∙ Share Liyuan” Innovation Week, the event not only improved students’ welding skills but also enriched the form and content of campus innovation and entrepreneurship education. In the future, the Shenzhen University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center and the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering will continue to focus on the goal of “cultivating innovative and practical talents”, organizing more innovation activities that are closely aligned with students’ needs and developmental goals. These activities will help build a platform for student growth, enabling more students to shine and thrive on the path of innovation and practice.
