On the afternoon of March 21, 2026, the third CUPT (China Undergraduate Physics Tournament) university competition of Shenzhen University was successfully held at the Zhi Yuan Building 210 in the Canghai Campus. The event was attended by Vice Dean Wen Qiao, Associate Professor Zhao Gaiqing, and Professor Guo Shuqing from the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Assistant Professor Liu Yifei from the College of Civil and Transportation Engineering, and Teacher Huang Weicong from Shenzhen Middle School (mentor of the CYPT National Champion team from Shenzhen Middle School), all of whom served as judges. Teachers Liu Pengjuan and Xu Hailin organized and attended the competition.
The China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT) is a national competition established in China based on the model of the International Young Physicists’ Tournament (IYPT). The CUPT competition aims to enhance students’ ability to analyze and solve real-world physics problems using their knowledge, as well as cultivate their open-minded thinking skills. In the competition, participating students engage in a debate-style contest covering the basic knowledge, theoretical analysis, experimental research, and result discussions of real-world physics issues. CUPT is organized by universities and participated in by students, and it is a team-based physics competition. The competition emphasizes the development of participants’ innovation awareness, innovation ability, collaboration spirit, and practical ability. It de-emphasizes the concept of winning and focuses on academic exchange among students from different universities. Teams engage in discussions on 17 open-ended questions, sharing their opinions, showcasing their talents, learning from one another, and improving together. This event has received strong support from the Ministry of Education and is an important innovation competition for university students. Professor Zhao Gaiqing from our university led a team that, through prior learning, understanding, and observing the competition, actively promoted Shenzhen University’s participation in the CUPT in 2024, and the team received a lot of attention and a positive response from the students. This competition is currently listed under the Category III of undergraduate academic competitions at Shenzhen University.
This university competition was organized by the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering of Shenzhen University to select the university’s representative team to participate in the South China Regional Competition and the National Finals. The competition was launched in November 2025 and saw seven teams of students completing projects, presenting their results, and showcasing their work.
The judges reviewed the teams’ preliminary experimental results, provided detailed feedback, and offered professional suggestions. The competition was a great success.

Award Results of the Teams
Through the university competition, Shenzhen University’s representative team was formed. We wish them the best of luck in the South China Regional Competition and the National Finals, hoping they achieve great success and bring honor to our university!
