To further deepen the university-enterprise collaborative education mechanism, align more precisely with the development needs of industry, technological frontiers, and talent gaps, and continuously expand pathways for students’ internships, practical training, and career development, the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering organized a visit and exchange event at Yutong Optical on the morning of July 24, 2026. The delegation was led by Liu Liwei, Executive Dean of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, and included Wen Qiao, Vice Dean of the College; Lei Lei, Head of the Department of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering; Zhang Min, Director of the Innovation Division; Lu Bo, Deputy Head of the Department of Physics; Peng Xiao, Internship Supervisor; Yang Ting, Academic Affairs Secretary; and Li Yanyan, Counselor. Twenty-seven students from the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering accompanied the delegation as interns.

Accompanied and guided by Meng Xinjun, Head of the Talent Supply Section of Dongguan Yutong Optical Technology Co., Ltd., the university delegation first visited the product exhibition halls of Yutong Optical and its subsidiaries. In the exhibition halls, Meng provided a detailed introduction to Yutong Optical’s development since its establishment, core industrial system, global industrial presence, independently developed equipment, and achievements and honors in the field of optical lens and lens-manufacturing equipment. Faculty members and students viewed a wide range of lenses, camera lenses, and other products up close, and visited the automated camera-lens production workshop. The visit gave them a direct understanding of Yutong Optical’s current technological strengths and market influence in the optical industry.

At the exchange seminar that followed, Li Wenyong, General Manager of the Human Resources and Administration Center of Dongguan Yutong Optical Technology Co., Ltd., welcomed the delegation from Shenzhen University. Meng Xinjun, Head of the Talent Supply Section, then introduced Yutong Optical. Established in September 2011, Yutong Optical has grown over the past decade into a professional optical solutions provider centered on optical products and integrating research and development, manufacturing, marketing, and after-sales services. The company was listed on the ChiNext market of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in September 2019. In 2024, it ranked first globally with a market share of 41.4%. Yutong Optical operates in more than 30 countries and regions around the world and has more than 300 overseas partners. At the same time, the company has continued to focus on the optical lens sector and has established an R&D team of more than 600 employees. In his concluding remarks, Li Wenyong noted that Yutong Optical has broad prospects in the future market and expressed the hope that the company and the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering would establish a partnership, jointly explore talent development models, and continuously cultivate professionals who meet the real needs of industry.

Liu Liwei noted that Yutong Optical has significant potential for university-enterprise collaboration. She expressed the hope that the two sides would establish channels for research collaboration, the development of an integrated science-industry-education training base, and talent placement. The College’s programs in Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Physics, and other fields are highly compatible with the company’s core products and business operations, providing a strong foundation for cooperation. She further expressed the hope that the two sides would engage in comprehensive and in-depth collaboration in talent development, the joint establishment of laboratories, collaborative research projects and efforts to address industrial challenges, student internships and practical training, and graduate employment.

Wen Qiao introduced the enterprise resources surrounding Shenzhen University, the College’s strengths in university-enterprise collaboration and its existing partner companies, and the current development of its graduates in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He also presented the College’s history, faculty development, and the development of its academic programs. He expressed the College’s interest in collaborating with Yutong Optical on competitions, explained the College’s research platforms, research achievements, and research funding, and introduced its joint student training programs with overseas universities, as well as an overview of its research teams. These introductions demonstrated the distinctive educational approach of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, which continuously aligns its programs with regional industries and deepens the integration of industry and education.
During the discussions on industry-university-research projects, the two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange on university-enterprise collaboration. Gao Ming, Dean of the Research Institute of Yutong Optical Technology Co., Ltd. and General Manager of the Xi’an Branch, drew on his experience in both higher education and industry to emphasize that universities should cultivate practical, industry-ready talent. The abilities of graduates should be aligned with the actual requirements of enterprise positions, and university talent development should gradually place greater emphasis on translating research outcomes into practical applications. As the micro- and nano-optics market continues to expand, enterprises will face a substantial demand for talent. The two sides plan to deepen cooperation in the joint development of specialized talent programs, collaborative research projects, student internships and practical training, and graduate employment.

The event concluded with an unveiling ceremony for the off-campus internship base. Liu Liwei and Li Wenyong jointly carried out the ceremony.

By combining on-site observation with seminars and discussions, the visit not only enabled the College to gain a deeper understanding of cutting-edge technological trends and talent demands in the optical industry, but also provided first-hand industry feedback for program development and curriculum improvement. During the seminar, the two sides reached preliminary understandings on cooperation in specialized talent development, joint guidance for competitions, and collaborative efforts to tackle research projects. Going forward, the College will use the off-campus internship base as a platform to further advance the integration of industry and education. While improving its talent development programs and strengthening practical teaching, it will also broaden employment pathways for students and realize mutual empowerment between talent cultivation and talent utilization.
