On September 20, Professor Xu Chengzhong, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Macau, led a delegation to visit the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Shenzhen University. The delegation conducted a special study on the development of teaching laboratories for information technology and New Engineering disciplines. The delegation also included Zhong Junwen, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology; Hao Tianwei, Acting Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and Zhao Jiawen, Director of External Cooperation Affairs for the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Engineering. Wu Honglei, Vice Dean of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, along with Wang Shixing and Xu Guiwen, Deputy Directors of the Teaching Experiment Center, and key faculty members, participated in the exchange.

Construction of the University of Macau’s new Hengqin campus is progressing rapidly. Infrastructure construction for two eight-story buildings for the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Engineering has commenced, with a total of 50,000 square meters of interior renovation and specialized design for teaching laboratories and classrooms to begin soon. The delegation’s visit focused on the planning and layout, equipment configuration, teaching applications, safety management, and operation and maintenance of teaching laboratories for New Engineering and information technology disciplines, with the aim of providing references for the laboratory design of the new campus.
Accompanied by Vice Dean Wu Honglei, the delegation visited the teaching laboratories of the Teaching Experiment Center to learn about workstation layouts, equipment configuration, daily operation and maintenance, safety management, and practical teaching. The two sides also exchanged views on site regarding space planning, equipment selection, and open sharing. During the discussion, Vice Dean Wu Honglei introduced the College’s development. The Teaching Experiment Center presented its overall planning for teaching laboratories, tiered and modular layout, information systems and equipment configuration framework, as well as its practical teaching model integrating virtual and physical environments and combining coursework with competitions. The two sides held in-depth discussions on laboratory development, open reservation management, safety assurance, and practical teaching.

Dean Xu Chengzhong spoke highly of the achievements of the Teaching Experiment Center in developing New Engineering teaching laboratories and reforming practical teaching. He noted that the study visit provided valuable experience for the design of laboratory plans at the new campus. He expressed the hope that, by leveraging the geographic advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the two universities could further deepen cooperation in talent development, experimental teaching, and other areas. The exchange laid a solid foundation for future resource sharing and joint development of teaching laboratories for New Engineering practical education among universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
