The optoelectronic industry is one of the most dynamic and promising sectors in the 21st century, covering various fields such as optoelectronic integrated chips, laser technology, imaging, displays, communications, sensors, storage, photovoltaics, laser medicine, and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), offering broad employment prospects. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area is China’s largest manufacturing and consumer market for optoelectronic products, providing abundant job opportunities and a vast development platform for professionals in optoelectronics. The Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering program integrates technologies from optics and photonics, electronics, microelectronics, and computer science, focusing on the theory, materials, devices, and system technologies related to optoelectronic information in the processes of generation, transmission, acquisition, processing, storage, and display. The program has 74 full-time faculty members, including a group of renowned national and international leaders and high-level young scholars. It is one of the first national-level first-class undergraduate programs, a key program in Guangdong Province, and a key discipline in the province. The program also boasts a complete education system for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and is home to South China’s first postdoctoral research station in Optical Engineering. In the 2023 US News ranking of “Best Global Universities for Optical Sciences”, it ranks 6th in the world and 1st in China.
