The Department of Fundamental Physics was established in June 2019 and is primarily responsible for teaching the University Physics and University Physics Laboratory courses for all science and engineering undergraduate programs at the university. The department has a vibrant and experienced teaching staff, currently consisting of 23 full-time faculty members: 1 professor, 11 associate professors, and 11 lecturers and laboratory instructors. 90% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees.
To meet the diverse needs of different majors, the department offers tiered teaching for the University Physics courses. These include four levels of courses: University Physics A (including both Chinese-language courses and bilingual MOOCs), University Physics B, University Physics C, and University Physics D. The department also offers three levels of University Physics Laboratory courses: Lab1, Lab2, and Lab3. Lab1 and Lab2 are designed for first- and second-year undergraduate students, while Lab 3 is aimed at senior undergraduates and focuses on innovative experiments, aligning with various competitions to foster students’ creative thinking. In the past three years, faculty members in the Department of Fundamental Physics have led students to achieve remarkable results in various physics experiment competitions, winning 14 first-place awards, 8 second-place awards, and 4 third-place awards in provincial or higher-level competitions.
